Mike Magee Joins New Teacher Center Board of Directors
SANTA CRUZ, CA ― New Teacher Center (NTC), a national nonprofit focused on disrupting the predictability of educational inequities for systemically underserved students by accelerating educator effectiveness, announces Chiefs for Change CEO, Mike Magee, as the newest member of the organization’s Board of Directors.
Chiefs for Change is a nonprofit, bipartisan network of state and district education chiefs who lead systems that collectively serve more than 7 million students. Prior to Chiefs for Change, he co-founded and was CEO of the Rhode Island Mayoral Academies. He is a 2013 Pahara Aspen Education Fellow and Pahara Fellowship moderator. In addition to teaching at the post-secondary level for over a decade, Magee holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor’s degree from the College of the Holy Cross.
“We are so pleased to welcome Mike to our Board of Directors,” notes New Teacher Center CEO, Desmond Blackburn. “Our organization is continuously working to bring districts evidence-based professional learning opportunities. Mike’s experience with Chiefs for Change and as an educator will further our understanding of diverse district landscapes and how we can ensure that every educator has access to quality professional learning that makes a difference and helps end educational inequities.”
New Teacher Center’s Board of Directors provides the organization with strategic insights into the education field, professional learning, and instructional programming. Additionally, the Board supports the expansion of New Teacher Center’s focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, both in the organization’s structure and programs. Earlier this year, New Teacher Center released its new mission and vision statements, which fortifies this commitment to systemically underserved students and ending educational inequities.
“Several Chiefs for Change members have gone on to play vital leadership roles in the non-profit sector,” Magee says. “I am looking forward to supporting Desmond Blackburn in his role as CEO of New Teacher Center. High-quality professional learning for teachers is essential to the success of all students.”
