President’s Education Budget Leaves Educators and Students Without Key Supports
New Teacher Center’s CEO, Desmond Blackburn, released the following statement in response to the President’s proposed FY2020 budget:
“The proposed cuts to Title II are a serious blow to educators and their ability to access professional learning opportunities we know to work. Teachers deserve professional learning and development that elevates and accelerates their effectiveness. We’ve seen the benefits time and time again, especially among teachers of systemically underserved student populations.
Districts across the country depend on Title II funds to provide such quality professional learning opportunities that have been proven to increase instructional practice and student achievement. By taking away these funds and that access, educators are left without key supports and students are ultimately those who suffer.”
