The New Teacher
Center’s Facilitator’s Guide is designed to assist program leaders in designing and conducting
mentor professional development focused on the skills and attitudes needed to become thoughtful teachers
of teachers.
Based upon the New Teacher Center’s extensive experience in beginning teacher and mentor learning,
this guide offers a research-based, year-long curriculum of mentor professional development. The curriculum
is organized to reflect the varying needs of mentors and beginning teachers over the course of the
school year. Aligned with the NTC Formative Assessment System (FAS), the Facilitator’s Guide
is flexible and easily adapted to any mentoring context where the focus is on advancing a new teacher’s
classroom instruction
