POLICYState Policy SupportThe New Teacher Center is currently working in more than 15 states to support policy makers in their efforts to design and implement high quality induction policies and programs. Working with a wide range of state agencies and leaders (i.e. state departments of education, state superintendents, governors' offices, legislators, legislative staff, state education associations, etc.) the NTC is committed to contextualizing policy to meet specific state needs and to ensuring consistency, alignment, and quality in all policy endeavors. USE FEDERAL STIMULUS FUNDING TO PROMOTE NEW TEACHER EFFECTIVENESSThe American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) includes a focus on innovative school reform, teacher effectiveness, and meaningful interventions in the lowest-performing schools. High-quality mentoring and induction—coupled with coaching-based supervision and the development of strong professional learning communities—have proven to be powerful strategies in supporting significant growth in some of our nation’s most challenging schools and districts.
