ABOUT THE NTC

New Teacher Center Partnership with the Math Collaborative on the Central Coast (MC3), a California Math and Science Partnership (CaMSP)

    Description of Project

The Math Collaborative on the Central Coast (MC3) has been made possible by a California Mathematics and Science Partnership (CaMSP) Grant.  Created by the North Monterey County Unified School District (NMCUSD), MC3 combines the energies of the University of California at Santa Cruz (UCSC), California State University at Monterey Bay (CSUMB), and five school districts to improve classroom pedagogy and increase mathematical content knowledge of participants.  Additional goals of the project are to increase student achievement while decreasing the achievement gap, increase the numbers of highly qualified teachers in math, and develop teacher leadership capacity at each participating school.

The NTC at UCSC has worked with the MC3 team to provide professional development in these areas:

    For participating teachers

    • Group Development
    • Analyzing Student Work and Planning Standards-Based Lessons

    For Participating Math Coaches

    • Foundations in Mentoring
    • Using Data to Inform Instruction
    • Observing and Conferencin

Additionally, the research team at the NTC at UCSC is conducting research on the impact of Lesson Study in this project.

Partners Involved: NMCUSD, UCSC, CSMB, Salinas High School District, Alisal, Santa Rita, Graves, and the NTC @UCSC.
