PAR Reader

Need help in answering these questions?
  • What is the rationale and history of PAR?
  • Can an evaluator also be a mentor?
  • How will PAR impact site principals?
  • How are existing PAR programs designed?
  • What makes for a well prepared consulting teacher?
  • Where are the minefields?

The New Teacher Center @ UCSC, which has supported over 2500 new teachers and 100 support providers/mentors through the Santa Cruz New Teacher Project, recognizes that a well implemented PAR program represents both a challenge and an opportunity for the teaching profession. Well implemented, PAR can strengthen teaching. Poorly implemented, it could become "one more program," even weakening professional development and teacher induction.

Realizing the immediate need for resources as California educators move quickly to implement the state’s new PAR legislation, and knowing that the information that is out there is limited and hard to access, the NTC has assembled the PAR Reader. The PAR Reader includes 26 articles and appendices written by academics, practitioners, principals, teachers, consulting teachers, and superintendents with expertise and experience in PAR programs. The articles in the PAR Reader represent a variety of perspectives and stakeholders.
