The New Teacher Center's mission is to improve student learning by supporting the development of an inspired, dedicated and highly qualified teaching force.
Core Values
We believe that:
Good teachers are at the center of successful education and that every child has the right to high-quality teaching;
Effective schools are critical to the success of our diverse democratic society;
High standards for educators and students are important and require an environment that supports their achievements;
Beginning teachers' successful development depends upon support at the individual, school, and district levels;
Lifelong learning is essential to the health of individuals and organizations and involves an ongoing process of planning, action, and reflection;

Goals
To develop the organizational structure and capacity of the NTC to provide leadership and a national voice for new teachers;
To provide assistance to schools and districts in developing new teacher induction programs and professional development opportunities;
To further develop and strengthen the support and assessment practices of the Santa Cruz New Teacher Project (SCNTP) and to investigate their effectiveness as a national model for new teacher support;
To engage in research and evaluation activities designed to inform new teacher practice and school reform efforts;
To develop models for school-university partnerships that support teacher development and sustain school improvement initiatives;
To support the recruitment and retention of a multicultural teaching force that reflects the diverse student population;
To advocate for public policies and programs that support teacher professional development and ongoing educational change;
To disseminate model practices and research to educators and public-policy makers.
